Playing Hide & Seek (Clouds on a Roll)

12" x 12"
Encaustic and Pen & Ink on Wood
$360

I was standing in a parking lot admiring some awesome clouds when a voice beside me said, "I used to play hide and seek in those kind of clouds." I looked over and saw an elderly gentleman who then told me he was a pilot during the war. He was also an author, Harold C. Rosser, and this is the kind of plane on the cover of one of his books. I finally got to illustrate a moment I never forgot from ten years ago.
I combined it to a scene captured on one day of hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains in the summer. The clouds would come and go sometimes totally obscuring the view and other times exposing a blue sky. It was a magical and mystical day as the mountains lived up to their name.
